Eligibility Criteria:
1. Individuals, agencies, institutions, foundations,
companies/ corporations, prior unselected nominees, and other groups which have contributed to literacy.
2. SCCRC Executive Board members are not eligible during their of office. (As defined by the SCCRC by-laws, the Executive
Board consists of the President, President-Elect, Vice-President, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Treasurer,
Membership Chairperson, eight members at large and the Past President.)
3. Candidates can be working in literacy endeavors within the educational community or support activities on a social,
cultural, economic or political nature which focus on literacy.

Nomination Criteria:
1. Any individual or group may nominate a worthy Santa Clara County candidate.
2. Nominations should conform to these guidelines and be presented using the Nomination Form.

Selection Criterion:
1. Contributions of nominees must be significant and
directly related to improving the reading process, reading instruction or furthering literacy in Santa Clara County.
2. Nominees should demonstrate exemplary service,
practice, and accomplishments that provide a model of leadership for others. Examples may include but are not limited
to:
a. stimulation of basic skills and the enjoyment of reading in a variety of academic and nonacademic areas and situations.
b. designing and/or implanting literacy programs
c. using home and community experiences to enhance reading
d. involvement with applied research in fields related to literacy
e. obtaining public support, relative to enhancement of literacy
f. use of different forms of literature in reading instruction
g. projects originated or implemented by volunteers or parents
h. design/production of special materials/media for reading/literacy programs
3. Nominee should be actively participating in these
meaningful activities.
