The Santa Clara County Reading Council is a non-profit organization of teachers, students, instructors, librarians, professionals, publishers, and parents who have the common goal of promoting reading and literacy for all people.
As a professional organization, we have been awarded with the title of Honor Council from the International Reading Association for the past 31 years. We are also one of the largest professional reading organizations in California.
We sponsor events for children, professionals, and the community. Children can celebrate their own literacy development at the Children's Writing Workshop and Young Author's Faire. Professionals can receive Professional Development during the Asilomar Reading Conference (College Credit Available!). We enjoy reading to children and passing out free books to the community at Reading under the Stars and the Overfelt Gardens Chinese Moon Festival. For more information about these and other events, please visit our Recent and Upcoming Events page.
This year, we are combining two of our most exciting events for students: the Young Author's Faire and the Children's Writing Workshop. Our new Young Writer's Festival will feature writing workshops for children in grades K-8, an opportunity for school sites to showcase their talented young writers, and a lot of fun entertainment!
